Toyota unveiled a new compact SUV to the world this week, the Yaris Cross, based on the same the TNGA compact car platform used by the latest generation Yaris subcompact passenger car launched last October.
The Yaris Cross was originally scheduled to make its global debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, before that was cancelled due to social restrictions imposed by the Swiss government because of the COVID19 pandemic.

Toyota confirmed its new SUV would be launched in Japan this autumn, followed by Europe in mid-2021.
The automaker described the Yaris Cross as an urban type compact SUV, which shares the same “easy to handle” driving characteristics as the Yaris passenger car while offering SUV-like interior comfort and luggage space.
The vehicle will be available with the same ‘all new’ hybrid powertrain system fitted to the latest Yaris model, along with advanced safety and security technology.
The Yaris Cross will be produced by Toyota Motor East Japan Company for the Japanese market and at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France for Europe.
