Toyota Motor Corporation announced plans to make its Tokyo based Woven by Toyota affiliate a wholly owned subsidiary to streamline the development and adoption of software and connected systems in its vehicles.

The integration is intended to strengthen Woven by Toyota’s relationship with the Japanese automaker’s mainstream operations and accelerate new systems development.

Toyota said it had already begun moving from software development to software implementation which would involve a restructuring process within the Toyota Group including its main components supplier Denso.

Last April, Woven Planet Holdings changed its name to Woven by Toyota with the company also undergoing a corporate reorganisation to support the aim of “realising software implementation in vehicles at an early stage”.

Woven by Toyota also believes software development needs to be in step with customers’ needs.

As a result, it was decided that Woven by Toyota would become a software development outsourcing company focused solely on Toyota needs. A review of the software development structure within the Toyota Group was announced earlier this month to strengthen collaboration between Toyota, Woven by Toyota and Denso.
