Toyota Motor announced it would halt operations on a further three assembly lines in Japan for several days in August due to supply chain disruption caused by the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 Delta variant in Vietnam.
The carmaker had already suspended production at its three vehicle assembly plants in Thailand earlier this week after an outbreak was detected at the plant of a key supplier in the country.

The company’s Toyota Auto Body Company subsidiary was also forced to suspend production at a plant in Japan which makes five models, including the Alphard and Vellfire minibuses, for five days from the end of July due to the resulting component supply disruption.
The latest supply disruption means Toyota’s Tahara plant in Aichi Prefecture, which makes the LandCruiser SUV and Lexus models, will suspend production for four days from 3 August while Toyota Auto Body Company will suspend a further two lines in Yoshiwara for two days from 5 August.
This will result in the loss of production of around 5,000 vehicles in additional to the lost 3,000 units announced at the beginning of the week.
