Production of the redesigned 2022 Tundra has begun at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX).

The new range, including a hybrid, is the truck’s first major model change since the then new plant began assembling trucks in 2006.

Twenty suppliers also operate on the site.

In 2019, TMMTX announced a spend of US$391m to prepare for production of the new model, taking cumulative investment to $3.1bn.

The factory was expanded to accommodate new processes and technology and prepare to assemble a hybrid electric version.

TMMTX has annual capacity for 208,000 vehicles.
