One Toyota was announced three years ago to create more unified operations in North America and included the transfer of North American headquarters from the Los Angeles region to Plano, Texas, and a new research and development facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The PEMC includes spaces with natural lighting which, Toyota said, "encourage discovery and foster teamwork that will result in increased collaboration and faster decision making".

Its engineers work on all aspects of production, including stamping, body, paint, plastics, assembly, powertrain, environment and safety, in conjunction with designers and product planners and production floor staff.

The full worker count is 800 with indirect purchasing, information systems, strategic business management, human resources and talent development staff included.

PEMC also has a new TILT Lab to focus primarily on problem solving and innovation. Toyota said the name was inspired by the goal of shifting conventional thinking on its axis, and taking an idea from concept to prototype.

Environment friendly systems include solar panels, skylights, rainwater harvesting and geothermal HVAC.

Toyota said earlier this year it was spending $10bn in the US over the next five years.
