Toyota Industries Engine India (TIEI), a joint venture between the local Kirloskar Systems (KSL) and Japan’s Toyota Industries Corporation has opened a new diesel engine plant at Jigani Industrial Area, Bengaluru.

The factory makes the global diesel (GD) engine. On 22 acres and built at a cost of INR1.1bn (US$16.17m), the plant has capacity of 108,000 units/year and manufactures 1GD-FTV 2.8 litre and 2GD-FTV – 2.4 litre engines meeting BS 4/Euro 4 emission standards provision to upgrade to BS 5 and 6/Euro 5 and 6 with minimum investment and lead time in the future.

This is Toyota’s first GD engine plant in India and its third globally, after Japan and Thailand.

The business was established in November 2015 and began production last March, employing 1,200 people.
