Toyota Motor launched the new Corolla Cross hybrid SUV in Vietnam this week, making it the first hybrid vehicle to be launched in the country – according to local reports.

The Corolla Cross made its global debut last month when it was launched in Thailand, where the main production facility for the model is located.

It is based on the TNGA (GA-C) platform and is fitted with a new torsion beam suspension which the company says provides a stable, cushioned ride. Its cabin offers ample headroom, with the elevated seating also offering wide views and reduced blind-spots for the driver, and 487 litres of luggage space.

The Corolla Cross is available as a petrol driven and hybrid vehicle fitted with a 1.8L engine, producing 103kW and 72kW of power respectively.  The petrol model has a fuel consumption of 6.5l/100km and emits 150g/km of CO2 under the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle), while the hybrid model consumes 4.3l/100km and producing 98g/km of CO2 emissions.

Toyota Motor Vietnam said it would import the model from Thailand – the company's main production hub in south east Asia. It also said it will launch the new Corolla Altis 2020 sedan in Vietnam next week.
