Toyota Motor Corporation unveiled its all-new RAV4 compact SUV at a media event in Japan, its first full-model changeover since 2019, ahead of its roll-out in global markets.
The sixth generation RAV4’s exterior was designed with sharper, bolder lines, as the automaker aimed to emphasize power and solidity. In the interior, the instrument panel has been lowered to enhance visibility while a new generation multimedia system has been fitted, using the Arene software development platform developed by Woven by Toyota.
The new RAV4 is available with hybrid-electric (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The PHEV variant is the first model to feature Toyota’s newly developed, sixth-generation plug-in hybrid system. It combines a high-capacity drive battery and a high-output charger, offering a battery driving range of up to 150 km compared with 95 km in the previous model.
Performance has been improved by a more powerful drive motor and an electronic braking system. The model also comes with a DC rapid charging system that charges the battery to 80% of capacity in around 30 minutes.
The HEV variant also has a higher motor power output, thanks to improvements to the transaxle, power control unit, battery, and other components.
