Toyota and other automakers are recalling around 2.9m vehicles in Japan, China, Oceania and other regions as part of the wider Takata inflator-related recall ordered last year.
Affected models include Corolla sedans and RAV4 crossovers, Reuters reported.

Toyota affiliates Fuji Heavy Industries, which makes Subaru cars, and truck maker Hino Motors, as well as Mitsubishi Motors, have also recalled around 240,000 vehicles in Japan to replace Takata inflators which can explode after prolonged exposure to hot conditions, the report said.
Toyota told Reuters recalls were issued for about 1.16m vehicles sold in Oceania, the Middle East and the automaker’s smaller markets, nearly one-third of total, while about 750,000 vehicles had been recalled in Japan.
Vehicles sold in North America, Toyota’s biggest market, were not included in the latest recall, it added.
The news agency noted Takata is currently seeking a financial sponsor to help pay for the costs related to the recalls. Last month, it pleaded guilty to a US felony charge as part of a US$1bn settlement over its faulty inflators.
