Our own Rob Golding as always, has a view of the current state of play on both sides of the Atlantic.

Electric vehicles made the news regularly this week; as well as Mercedes’ plans, there were announcements from Tesla and Subaru.

Also in the US, another Toyota executive announced a move (back) to Ford and there were cuts to minivan and truck production.

And we finally got the official word on VW’s new Gol. Not a model too well known outside emerging markets, perhaps, but it’s nonetheless one of the automaker’s most-built models, as Our Man in Brazil reports.

At least, after that sales and production cuts gloom, it is a holiday weekend in the US, Independence Day conveniently falling on a Friday.

Enjoy yours,
