US June and half-year sales news was dire, as expected, with even the mighty Toyota affected but it wasn’t nearly as bad on the opposite side of the world where sales records are being broken. For now, anyway.

Our own Rob Golding as always, has a view of the current state of play on both sides of the Atlantic.

Electric vehicles made the news regularly this week; as well as Mercedes’ plans, there were announcements from Tesla and Subaru.

Also in the US, another Toyota executive announced a move (back) to Ford and there were cuts to minivan and truck production.

And we finally got the official word on VW’s new Gol. Not a model too well known outside emerging markets, perhaps, but it’s nonetheless one of the automaker’s most-built models, as Our Man in Brazil reports.
