Year to date, the UK is the top market for Mitsubishi Motors Europe (MME) with 30,968 units sold, up 14.5% year to date.


Other markets to show an increase are Russia (65.3% increase to 23,339) and France (up 1.0% to 8,954).


But sales in Germany plunged 15.9% to 26,935 units in the first 10 months while sales in Italy (-12.2% to 12,387) and Spain (-5.6% to 14,889) have also fallen.


The Thai-built L200 pickup truck line (known in some markets as the Triton) is Mitsubishi’s top-selling model in Europe for 2004 so far, with 30,780 units sold.


Other top-sellers are the Japanese-built Lancer (30,192), Dutch-built Space Star (29,804), Japanese built Pajero/Shogun SUV (22,275), the Japanese-built Outlander [Airtrek] (13,787) and the newly launched, Dutch-built Colt compact hatchback (13,004) which shares its platform and major components with DaimlerChrysler’s Smart Forfour.


Mitsubishi Motors, recovering from a recall scandal in Japan that has severely affected its sales there, is doing less well in the United States, its key export market. According to WardsAuto.com, sales for January to October were off 35.7% to 142,734 units.
