A GBP185,000 armoured Range Rover has joined the UK fleet of car rental company Hertz in response, it said, “to increased customer demand”.

The reinforced vehicle includes under-body and floor protection, multi-laminate armoured glass, an anti-tamper exhaust, a fuel-supply override switch, oxygen supply, an intercom , run-flat tyres and a self-sealing fuel tank – “just perfect for celebrities, politicians, VIPs, or for those who just want to play at being James Bond”, a Hertz statement added.
The armoured car, er, Range Rover is available initially only through the daily rental firm’s Marble Arch office in central London for at least £1000 a day for a three-day minimum hire, though it can be delivered to most places in the UK with 72 hours notice minimum.
For those little shopping trips to Iraq or Afghanistan, perhaps?
Hertz said the lead time is “to enable comprehensive checks to be made into potential customers”.
