The company sold over 500 imported VW, Audi, Skoda, Peugeot and Citroen vehicles last year. This year, it began distributing Kia models.

Yontrakit plans to build a new THB100m (US$2.9m) assembly plant in Krabang, near Bangkok.

It will initially assemble the Peugeot Expert 11-seater minibus and van from semi-knocked-down (SKD) kits imported from France. The vehicles will be exported to other ASEAN region markets under the AFTA scheme.

If successful, other Peugeot models will be assembled at the new plant. Yontrakit previously assembled the 405 in Thailand but ceased operations following the Asian financial crisis in 1997.

PSA Peugeot Citroen does not plan to acquire equity in the operation but will support Yontrakit with distribution and after-sales software and help. It will also work with other Peugeot producers and distributors in the region to coordinate exports.

Yontrakit plans to expand its dealer network in Thailand and will build exclusive Peugeot outlets in the main cities.
