Sales of new vehicles in Thailand increased by almost 30% during the first half of the year to 181,600 units, according to data released by Toyota Motor Thailand. June was a particularly strong month, accounting for 34,900 units, boosted by plenty of new product activity.

Toyota was the market leader in the first half, with 57,000 units sold – 31% of the market. Toyota has a particularly strong position in pick-ups.

Toyota has now revised up its forecast for overall Thai vehicle sales to 360,000 units (which compares to an earlier projection of 320,000 units). In 2001, the total vehicle market in Thailand amounted to 297,000 units.
