Production of cars and trucks in Thailand for the first seven months of 2002 rose 14.7% to 293,348 units from a year ago, driven mainly by higher domestic sales, Dow Jones reported.

Export of assembled vehicles, however, declined 3.6% on year to 92,933 units, Dow Jones said, citing the Federation of Thai Industries, with the value of these exports falling 8.2% on year to 41.94 billion baht due to the stronger baht in the period.


Including engines and other parts, Thailand’s total automotive exports generated 55.54 billion bath in the January-July period, down 5.5% on year, Dow Jones said.
