The Thai unit of Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) announced Wednesday in a statement that effective Sept. 21 it will offer an extended 3-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty on all the vehicles it manufactures and sells in the Thai market.
This is the first time such warranty, equivalent to that offered in Japan and the U.S., will be offered on cars assembled in a non-Japan Asian plant, the company said.
The announcement follows Toyota’s earlier released plan to boost its market share in Thailand to 35% by 2003, from the current 29%.
Some 165,000 vehicles have been sold in Thailand’s domestic car market during Jan.-Aug. and sales for the entire year are expected to reach around 260,000-280,000.
Toyota earlier said it is using between 55% to 87% of local parts in the various models it assembles here.
