New vehicle sales in Thailand continued to grow strongly year-on-year in February, by 42.3% to 129,910 units, with order fulfillment still high from the government’s first-time buyer incentive scheme which expired at the end of 2012.

Sales were up by 3.25% compared with January, according to data released by the Federation of Thai Industries. Cumulative sales for the first two months of the year were up by close to 52% at 255,727 units.

Thai vehicle production increased by over 36% to 229,204 units in February and by almost 51% to 465,229 units in the first two months of the year. Year-earlier output was also still affected by flood damage in the fourth quarter of 2011. 

The country exported a total of 94,527 vehicles in February, 22.3% more than a year ago, while cumulative exports for the first two months of the year were up by 38.4% to 181,224 units.
