Thai-Swedish Assembly (TSA) is most likely to win the temporary contract to paint body parts for the new 7-Series when BMW starts building the luxury saloon at its Rayong plant next year, sources have told The Bangkok Post newspaper.
 
The TSA factory currently builds Volvo and Land Rover vehicles. Other plants being considered by BMW for the contract include General Motors, Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant and YMC Assembly, according to the report.

Although the BMW 7-Series won’t be produced in large numbers, investment in a paint shop could top one billion bath according to the news report.


The report adds that BMW will install its own paint facility when it makes the all-new 5-Series at its own plant from 2004. The paint contract for the 7-Series will therefore be on a temporary basis.
