New vehicle sales in Thailand jumped by over 27% to 87,012 units in September, from 68,261 units a year earlier, according to Toyota Motor Thailand.
The market in September had yet to be affected by the country’s worst floods in over 50 years, but sales volumes in October are expected to be down significantly year-on-year and month-on-month.

Vehicle production has come to a halt in Thailand and sales operations have also been disrupted across the country – either directly or as a result of falling vehicle supply after months of record sales.
Many vehicle manufacturers have been hit by supply shortages from component manufacturers located in the flood-affected areas. Customers are also asking dealers to postpone deliveries until after the floods recede.
Sales in the January-September period increased by 20.6% to a record 670,970 units, from 556395 units a year earlier.
