New vehicle sales in Thailand fell by 37.7% to 69,681 units in May from 111,848 units a year earlier, according to the Federation of Thai Industries, as the political crisis in the country continued to weigh on domestic sentiment.

Cumulative five-month sales fell by 42.2% to 367,094, albeit from peak volumes of 634,762 units in the year-earlier period.

Vehicle production in the country fell by 36.1% year-on-year to 148,201 units in May and by 29.5% to 792,423 units in the first five months of the year.

Vehicle exports increased by just over 9% to 94,788 units last month, however, and by 2.9% to 456,101 units year-to-date.
