New vehicle sales in Thailand increased by 17.2% to 90,461 units in February, compared with 77,213 units a year earlier, according to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand.
That was one of the market’s best-ever monthly performances and indicates that the domestic industry is close to full recovery from the devastating floods in the fourth quarter of last year.

Sales of commercial vehicles rose by 33.4% to 58,291 units, driven by a strong bounce in pickup truck sales, of 36.2% to 51,335 units, as manufacturers worked through their order backlogs.
Passenger car sales were still weak, however, with volumes declining by 4% to 31,170 units. Honda’s factory in Ayutthaya is scheduled to resume operations on 26 March after being inundated by flood waters last October.
Cumulative sales for the first two months of the year were up by 14.5% at 166,707 units. For the first two months of this year, combined vehicle sales reached 166,707 units, up 14.5% year on year.
