Mitsubishi’s global small car, sold as the Mirage or Space Star, has had cumulative sales of 100,000 since it was first launched in Thailand, where it is built, in March 2012.

Exports from Thailand to other countries in Asia began in June last year with Japan added in August and Australia in January this year.

Sales in Europe started in February and by the end of May had reached 5,500.
Mitsubishi’s new Chonburi plant is currently being expanded to increase production from 150,000 to 200,000 units a year.

Domestic sales are running at around 4,000 a month, ahead of an initial target of 3,000 a month, according to the company. A newly-announced sedan bodystyle is expected to give sales a further lift.
