UK luxury motor-home manufacturer Auto-Sleepers plans to set up an assembly plant in Thailand to tap what it sees as a lucrative market for motoring holidays.
An assembly plant is scheduled to become operational in mid-2015 in Nonthaburi at an initial cost of THB50m (US$1.52m), in collaboration with its regional distributor Motorhomes & Caravans Thailand.
Local assembly will help reduce import tariffs significantly, from 220% that its built-up motor-homes currently incur.
The motor-home market in Thailand is estimated at around 100-200 units per year, according to the company, but reduced prices due to local assembly could increase overall demand for these vehicles.
