Thailand's new vehicle market continued to recover in September, with sales rising by 2.7% to 63,516 units from 61,863 units a year earlier, according to data released by the Federation of Thai Industries.

The market's recent rebound is encouraging with sales rising in five of the last six months following a sharp decline in the first quarter of the year. Last month, sales were led higher by a 14.5% jump in passenger car deliveries to 25,857 units and a 4.6% rise in pickup truck volumes to 26,454 units.

Cumulative nine-month sales were 0.5% higher at 556,400 units after three years of sharp decline. But, with the country deeply affected by the loss of King Bhumibol Adulyadej earlier this month, it is unclear how the market will perform in the short term.

Vehicle exports fell sharply in September, by 9.9% to 112,565 units, resulting in a 0.5% drop to 900,726 units in the first nine months of the year. Vehicle production was close to 2% higher at 1.457m units in this period, however.
