The Thai government is inviting automotive companies to invest in an automotive R&D centre linked to a long-delayed government-funded automotive testing centre in the country.

Vehicle assemblers and relevant automotive component manufacturers are being invited to join a THB800m (US$22m) public-private R&D partnership – part of a larger THB4.5bn government-funded testing centre to be built in Chachoengsao, near Bangkok.

The centre is aimed at helping local parts suppliers, including tyre manufacturers, develop new technologies and improve capabilities and product standards.

Local companies in particular are keen to develop capabilities for new generation technologies. One key target is for products developed and tested at this centre to be accepted in other global markets.
