New vehicle sales in Taiwan slipped by 0.8% to 35,512 units in October from 35,810 units a year earlier, according to local industry sources.

Compared with the previous month, sales rose by 13.2% as buyers returned to the market after the 'ghost month', the seventh months after the lunar new year which is unpopular among superstitious consumers.

Hotai Motor, the local Toyota and Lexus distributor, reported 9,427 sales last month to claim a 26.5% market share followed by Yulon Nissan with 3,569 sales and 10.1%.

China Motor Corporation, which distributes Mitsubishi vehicles, sold 3,459 units and Honda Taiwan 3,016 units.

Cumulative 10 month sales edged up by 0.7% to 362,016 units compared with 359,460 units in the same period of last year.

Hotai Motor expects volume to shrink by just over 2% this year to around 430,000 units from just under 440,000 units last year as the effects of the government's car scrappage incentives continue to wane.
