New vehicle sales in Taiwan rose by 11.4% to 26,965 units in February from 24,215 units in the same month of last year, according to local reports citing company data.

The market continued to grow strongly despite fewer working days during the month compared with last year due to the Lunar New Year holidays.

In the first two months of the year, the market was up by 7.5% at 74,901 units compared with from 69,645 units in the equivalent period a year earlier.

New models launched at the Taipei show in December also helped lift the market in the last two months and this momentum was expected to continue in the coming months.

Toyota and Lexus distributor Hotai Motor reported a 5% sales rise to 21,803 units in the first two months of the year, helped by strong demand for its Sienta compact MPV.

Mitsubishi distributor China Motor Corporation enjoyed an almost 14% year on year sales rise to 8,782 units year to date while Yulon Nissan – which is also responsible for the local Luxgen brand – saw its sales fall by almost 19% to 6,443 units.
