New vehicle sales in Taiwan increased by 9.8% year on year to 38,284 units in November, helped by new model launches by some of the market's key brands.

This follows weak overall sales in the previous few months despite a moderate pick up in economic activity in the country. Annual GDP growth expanded to just over 2% in the third quarter, driven by rising investment and private consumption.

The cumulative 11 month vehicle sales tally came to 397,744 units, up by almost 5% on the 378,959 units sold in same period last year.

Toyota and Lexus distributor Hotai Motor sold 12,067 units in November, helped by the launch of the Sienta compact MPV. The company expects its full year sales to reach 135,000 units to claim a 31% market share.

Yulon Nissan's sales amounted to 3,790 units last month; followed by Mitsubishi distributor China Motor with 3,519 units; and Mercedes-Benz, 2,036 units.
