Iran Khodro will start pilot production of the Pegueot 405-based Samand in Syria within the next two months.
Iran Khodro has established a local joint venture, called Syamko, which is investing US$60m in the plant, according to the Islamic Republic News Service.
Output will initially be 10,000 units, rising to 30,000 units in a second phase.
Imports of completely-built-up cars from Iran are currently subject to tariffs of between 160% to 40%. Tariffs on CKD imports are just 5%. The Syrian site is expected to become an export base for Iran Khodro in the Middle East.
