A group of Scania’s shareholders (representing more than 50% of the voting power of all shares in the company) have proposed that Volkswagen’s new boss Bernd Pischetsrieder takes a seat on Scania’s board. Mr Pischetsrieder takes over from Ferdinand Piëch as VW Group’s CEO this month.

The Scania board meets on 7 May 2002 to decide board changes.


Peggy Bruzelius, Clas Åke Hedström, Cees van Lede, Ferdinand Piëch, Lothar Sander, Rolf Stomberg, Marcus Wallenberg and Leif Östling are proposed to be re-elected as Directors. Detlef Wittig will resign. Mr Wittig was one of the Volkswagen representatives on the board.


Volkswagen acquired 34% of the voting rights (and 18.7% of the share capital) in Scania AB in 2000.


Scania and Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer Hino Motors Ltd. announced a strategic co-operation agreement last month. Hino is 50% owned by Toyota and is Japan’s largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles.
