"The order shows that customers in this region are prepared to invest
in an advanced new model such as the Volvo FH12. It also represents a significant
shift in technology for the country’s transport industry. We look forward to
further boosting our position on this market," comments Roar Isaksen, Senior
Vice President and Manager of the International Division at Volvo Trucks.
This agreement is the result of the co-operative agreement that Volvo signed
earlier this year with Saipa Diesel in Iran on the manufacture of heavy trucks.
The aim is to produce 1,500 units a year.
Since the early 1970s, Volvo Trucks has supplied more than 40,000 heavy trucks
to Iran, giving the company a leading position on this market. In some years,
Volvo’s supplies to Iran have totalled between 4,000 and 5,000 heavy trucks
a year.
