Truck and bus maker Volvo said on Wednesday that it will close a manufacturing plant in southern Denmark and shift production to Poland, cutting 200 jobs, according to an Associated Press (AP) report.

The Goteborg, Sweden-based manufacturer reportedly said a decline in demand for its buses, including in Denmark, resulted in the decision to close the Aabenraa plant during the second half of 2004.


According to AP, citing a company statement, Danish workers will have the chance to transfer to other Volvo operations. The statement reportedly added that the Volvo Buses unit has too much capacity in Europe and is scaling back the number of its sites.


Worldwide, Volvo Buses has reduced its work force by about 800 so far in 2003, Associated Press said.
