Volvo says it has recruited 50 engineers from Saab, with a further 50 being currently evaluated as redundant staff from the Trollhattan manufacturer look for alternative employment.
A recent job fair in Trollhattan attracted significant attendance, with Volvo receiving around 400 CVs as a result from both blue and white collar Saab workers.

“We have at this stage recruited around 50 engineers from Saab and we have another 50 in a recruitment process without them being signed up as employees,” a Volvo spokesman told just-auto from Gothenburg.
“Yes there is interest – we got around 400 CVs [but] we don’t have big need of blue collars – we are in the recruitment process [for] engineers for quite a long period of time. We definitely need engineers especially within the electromobility area…for our electric programme.”
Volvo is continuing its engineering recruitment drive for the rest of this year and possibly into 2013. “It is quite tough to find the competence you need in Sweden, so we are also recruiting in other countries,” said the Volvo spokesman.
“Of course, it is not only about anyone from Saab getting a job in Volvo – it is about getting the right guys as well.”

By GlobalDataSome 4,000 staff are thought to be at risk of redundancy in Saab’s home town of Trollhattan, but prospective bidder for the automaker, Brightwell Holdings, told just-auto last Friday (27 January) it was also looking to recruit engineers.
“At the end of the day, Saab will not be the entity we want it to be if we don’t have skilled engineers for local production,” Brightwell Holdings partner Zamier Ahmed told just-auto.
“We will make a statement with regards to that in the very near future [when] we have a better picture of the positioning for our proposal.”
