Telelogic, a provider of solutions for advanced software and systems development, has announced that Telelogic Tau SDL has been selected by Volvo Technological Development Corporation as their visual development tool to engineer Volvo’s new in-vehicle communication (telematics) system called ‘Volvo On Call’.

Telelogic Tau is a toolset for analysing, designing, implementing and testing reliable advanced software systems.
One of the greatest challenges for Volvo and other automakers has been the rapid introduction of in-vehicle software and computers, said David Hellstrom, group leader at Volvo Technological Development Corporation (VTD) in Gothenburg, Sweden.
“When the discussions about telematics were initiated within Volvo, I saw large advantages in using a visual modeling tool,” Hellstrom said. Following a tool evaluation, they chose Telelogic Tau SDL Suite.
“After building a prototype, very early on we were able to run simulations of its functionality — without having the hardware ready,” said Project Manager Laurent Colpier. The team also recognized advantages of using the SDL code as documentation, which saved the team a lot of time compared to documenting a system developed in textual programming languages, such as C.
