Volvo had received reports of driveability problems due to such leakages, spokesman Bo Larsen told the news agency.

“[Fuel] can leak into the engine area, but it’s a very restricted area. Of course no car manufacturer is especially glad that there is a fuel leakage,” Larsen reportedly said.

According to Reuters, Swedish newspaper Metro reported that the leakage into the engine area could cause fires, but Larsen said Volvo had not heard of any such incidents.

Most of the car owners affected had already been sent letters asking them to have their vehicles checked at a garage and Volvo would install a securing clamp to prevent any problems, Larsen told Reuters.
