Trelleborg has sold an operation that manufactures high-technology rubber, plastic and foam components and systems for the light vehicle industry. The operation is primarily located in France and is part of the supplier’s automotive business area. The buyer is Bavaria Industriekapital of Munich.
“The divestment is a further step in the Trelleborg Group’s strategy to focus on selected segments,” the supplier said in a statement.

The operation being sold makes components for pedal boxes and bump stops for all opening panels such as the boot [trunk] lid, doors and bonnet [hood]. The operation also spplies other components such as gaskets and moulded hoses offered in a range of polymer materials.
“With this divestment, Trelleborg will achieve a more concentrated automotive-related operation that we can continue to develop,” said Jim Law, business area president of Trelleborg. “At the same time, we are delighted that a new owner will take control of the now divested operation, which includes a highly advanced technical centre and a strong European customer base.”
The sold operation has annual sales of about SEK550m (US$811m; GBP516m) with about 570 employees. The transaction is expected to be finalised in this first quarter of 2012.
The operation is a separate unit in Trelleborg Automotive and is not connected to the antivibration business for light and heavy vehicles, which, as announced earlier, will be included in a joint venture with Freudenberg.
