Sweden’s Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation is confirming it will set up an office in Iran as the much-heralded ending of sanctions looms large.

The opening of a bureau in Tehran is important as Scandinavia’s automotive suppliers association, FKG, has been particularly active of late in the country, leading a delegation in a bid to prepare the ground for sanctions lifting.

Following that visit, Ministry of Enterprise and Information Minister, Mikael Damberg also took a group to Iran in December, illustrating the potential influence Stockholm believes Tehran to have in the future.

“Sweden has an Embassy in Tehran and we have had an Embassy there for a long time,” a spokeswoman for the Enterprise Ministry told just-auto from Stockholm.

“In February, Business Sweden will open an office in Tehran attached to the Embassy, that is true. The reason is to promote opportunities.

“Yes, of course it is [to coincide with the ending of sanctions]. Sweden is not unique because the European Union Member States have been developing [in] Iran because of the lifting of sanctions.

“There are business opportunities in Iran for Swedish businesses. However, it is a complex matter. You need to know what you are doing and the Swedish Embassy is there to support Swedish companies [doing] business with Iran.”
