Saab’s Trollhattan factory is once again at idle today (8 June) as the Swedish manufacturer struggles to overcome supply issues.

The automaker is blaming sensitivity of its just-in-time process that has seen disruption to its supply chain affect production after a start-stop last 24h saw the factory halt work again today.

“Discussions with a number of suppliers are still taking place,” a Saab spokeswoman in Sweden told just-auto. “Of course it is always unfortunate when you see the line stopped.

“What we have done is adjust our production lines for this week – we will take it on a day-day-basis. It is hard to make predictions we have learned.”

The spokeswoman was also keen to put the latest stoppage against the background of a complex series of long-term financial negotiations involving the European Investment Bank to draw down an existing loan, a property deal and “several avenues” that are being explored.

“The liquidity situation at the company is a question here and of course the goal with the suppliers is so that Saab can have a consistent flow of material,” she added.

“The suppliers of course are interested in their planning long-term.”

Saab declined to say what components or suppliers were of issue.
