SKF has opened its new bearing and hub unit factory in Jinan, Shandong Province, in China.

The factory will provide tapered roller bearings and split truck hub units for the truck market as well as serve industrial and aftermarket. The plant cost SEK590m (US$90m and employs 500 people.

“We are happy to see our factory investment in China support the growing truck business in the entire Asian region. Being close to our customers with both local production and engineering support is a high priority, both from a customer need and from a sustainability standpoint,” said Tryggve Sthen, president, SKF Automotive.

SKF developed the split truck hub unit to raise productivity through longer service life and reduced maintenance. The unit consists of a split outer ring enabling a cost effective manufacturing process, meeting local customer requirements.
