“They have not been charged, they are under suspicion. In Sweden, we have a rule that within four days they have to make a request for putting them into custody. The District Attorney has to ask the Court House to have a custody meeting – then the Court makes a decision.”

In Sweden lawyers can be asked for by those being questioned if there is a possibility of custody and are approved by the Court. As the first such attorney request was made on 20 May, any custody would take effect from 24 May.

“In Sweden, they are given attorneys if the crime they are suspected of is that they can get a sentience [of] jail,” said the Court source.

“At the moment they are still being heard by the police and the attorney [s] and we only have to wait.”

Swedish law firm Advokatfirman Hammar based in Saab’s home town of Trollhattan, confirmed it was representing one of those being questioned.

No-one at Advokatfirman Hammar was immediately available to comment further.

The Swedish Court source also declined to speculate on any possible sentence implications.
