Production of Volvo Trucks’ new models of the FH and FM ranges is now underway. The two ranges are at the heart of Volvo Trucks’ product offering and the model changeover is hugely important to the company.
Assembly of the new trucks commenced earlier this week at the company’s Tuve Plant in Gothenburg, Sweden.

After Tuve, production of the new trucks will start next in Gent, Belgium, where it is planned to start production of the new trucks in mid-February.
Eventually the aim is for the first two plants to have a combined output of about 900 vehicles per week, with an even distribution per model and plant. Assembly of the new trucks at local CKD plants will start in spring this year.
In the second half of the year, Volvo Trucks says that plants in Bangalore in India and Brisbane, Australia, will start production of the new trucks. The Volvo Truck plant in Curitiba in Brazil is scheduled to begin assembly during 2003.
Gunnar Ekwall, head of production for all of Volvo Trucks’ plants, reports that the work of preparing for production changeover is progressing ‘even better than expected’.
