Kongsberg Automotive (KA) has won an EUR18m actuator contract for full-size SUVs built in Mexico.
The suplier said the actuators would be used on an OEM’s full size SUV line which has been among the best selling vehicles in North America for many years. It would start production in Q4 2013 out of its Matamoros, Mexico facility. The contract will run for five years.

The electro-mechanical actuators are used in vehicles to automatically fold and tumble the seats for easy luggage access or access to the third seat row. A one-touch release button is pushed which starts the actuator, releasing the mechanisms in the seat. The seat then folds and tumbles out of the way, making it easier to enter.
“KA created and owns this concept and it has been installed in several vehicles across different OEMs. The design is offering value to the customer by creative interior functionality, and we see it as a strong growth possibility,” said interior systems head Scott Paquette.
