
Maruti Suzuki India has introduced its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, marking the company’s official foray into the electric vehicle market.
The vehicle was launched at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, which is being held from 17-22 January 2025, in New Delhi, India.
The firm’s first global strategic BEV model, e VITARA, was unveiled at Milan, Italy in November 2024.
Maruti Suzuki plans to commence production of e VITARA vehicle at its Gujarat facility in India in spring 2025.
The e VITARA, which is built on Suzuki’s HEARTECT-e EV platform, features “Bold & Masculine SUV styling” and R18 aerodynamic alloy wheels.
The vehicle offers two battery options, 49kWh and 61kWh, enabling a range of over 500km on a single charge.

By GlobalDataInside, the e VITARA boasts an integrated display system and a twin-deck floating console, enhancing the digital cockpit experience.
Some of the other features of the BEV include sliding and reclining rear seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and Infinity by Harman’s sound system.
Suzuki’s e VITARA also offers seven airbags as standard, Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and the Suzuki Connect with more than 60 features.
Maruti Suzuki said it is committed to establishing a BEV ecosystem in India, including smart home chargers, plug-n-play fast DC chargers at dealerships, and the ‘e for me’ app for charging needs.
The e VITARA, which is designed and tested for extreme conditions from “Sand to Snow”, is planned to be launched in phases.
Maruti Suzuki India managing director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said: “The e VITARA is an SUV built on the all-new platform, called HEARTECT-e, exclusively designed for electric vehicles.
“We have equipped the e VITARA with several premium and advanced features such as Level 2 ADAS, Integrated Digital Display, and Next-Gen Suzuki Connect.
“The idea is that, within these cities, every 5 to 10km a customer finds a charging point by Maruti Suzuki. We are also preparing 1,500 EV enabled service workshops covering over 1,000 cities with specially trained manpower and special equipment to address all EV related support, including charging. Additionally, we will provide roadside assistance all over India.”
Maruti Suzuki’s BEV is planned to be rollout across NEXA dealerships in India and will be exported to more than 100 countries, including Japan and Europe.
In November 2024, Maruti Suzuki India unveiled the fourth-generation Dzire sedan, Dazzling New Dzire, featuring upgrades and advanced tech enhancements designed to bolster its appeal.
The new car was launched in both petrol and S-CNG variants.
