Subaru has shown its first fully electric vehicle – the Solterra – developed on a platform shared with Toyota.

The electric SUV shares platform with the Toyota bZ4X. Subaru calls the platform e-SUBARU Global Platform while Toyota’s name for the same architecture is e-TNGA.

The motor show premiere will be at the LA show later this month.

Th Solterra is part of a joint venture with Toyota which was announced in June 2019. The co-developed architecture* is for C-, D- and E-segment models. Although there are as yet no firm details about possible models in the Mid-size and Large segments for either brand, both companies have stated that Toyota and Subaru C segment electric SUVs are being developed.

Subaru stated in December 2020 that the EV would be sold in European markets. Five months later it announced the model name and also the fact that the first markets would be Japan, the US, Canada, Europe and China. The US importer stated in August 2021 that the Solterra, new there for the 2023 model year, will have all-wheel drive as standard.
