Striking workers at Nexteer’s Saginaw plant in Michigan have returned to work after a lightening stoppage saw 3,200 staff down tools in a protest concerning pay.
The disgruntled employees walked out yesterday (8 December) following a breakdown in talks between the UAW union and Nexteer, but which has apparently now been resolved, although no details are as yet available concerning any settlement.

“We reached agreement a couple of hours ago – employees are working right now,” a Nexteer spokesman told just-auto from the US. “There were a couple of arguments unions raised. As usual it was about getting some more financial benefits from the company – this was one of the main reasons.
“We usually have buffers when it comes to production. These are workers on a couple of lines working on a couple of [unspecified] products.”
The UAW confirmed it had reached a “tentative agreement” with Nexteer through its Local 699 affiliate, although maintained no further details would be released until members had time to review the deal.
Nexteer, the former GM Saginaw steering division, has been in the hands of China-based Pacific Century Motors, since 2011.
Further details are expected from Saginaw later, particularly with regard to any knock-on effect for automakers.
