An independent Dutch foundation has filed a class action lawsuit in the Netherlands against Stellantis, according to Reuters.

It is over alleged emissions cheating by predecessor company, Fiat Chrysler.

The lawsuit was filed by Fiat Chrysler Investors Recovery Stichting. In a statement from its legal adviser, it is alleged that from at least 2014 until 2017 Fiat Chrysler “failed to disclose it had installed illegal software in its vehicles aimed at covering up emissions”, the news agency reports.

In a statement, Stellantis said it “believes that this lawsuit is without merit and intends to defend itself vigorously”.

Next steps will be decided by a court in December.
