The blueprint for the lightweight five seater city car, with a resin composite body, has been drawn up by specialists from Malaysia, Britain and Italy, said Dr Lawrence Perera, chairman of the manufacturer Transmec Holdings Pvt Ltd.


He added that the car would sell for 350,000 Sri Lanka rupees ($US3,630), which the company claims is affordable for a Sri Lankan family earning an average income.


The company plans to invest 600 million rupees in a manufacturing plant at Matugama, Sri Lanka, employing 700 people and assembling 600 cars a month.
