Visteon says its Cadiz Electronica subsidiary is to close its assembly plant at El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain, with the loss of 334 hourly and 52 salaried posts.
Specific closure plans will now be discussed with the UGT, CCOO and CSIF unions.
Cadiz Electronica manufactures electronics components for vehicle manufacturers globally, but a statement from Visteon noted the plant was facing “ongoing and significant decreases in production volumes” as demand for the specific type of technology manufactured at the facility declines.
The company added: “In the absence of new business programmes to replace the current production at the Cadiz plant… Visteon concluded there is not a
viable business case to continue operating the plant. The company unfortunately sees no alternative other than commencing the necessary procedures to close the plant.
“Visteon deeply regrets the impact this closure will have on the Cadiz plant’s employees, suppliers and its local community. The company will work with the plant’s works committee, the unions and appropriate public authorities and will endeavour to achieve a timely agreement that addresses the social impact.”
Visteon added its other Spanish subsidiaries and operations would continue to operate as normal and would not be impacted by the closure.
