Toyota Europe expects to have completed 90% of the work modifying accelerator pedals in some models and reprogramming Prius brake software by July, executives said this week.

Europe-wide, 70% of accelerator work and 85% of Prius brake work had been completed already, they said at the Auris Hybrid launch in Spain.

Toyota GB officals said 93% of accelerator modifications and 90% of brake updates had been done by 18 May, three times faster than any previous recall.

The British unit said customer satisfaction levels had been “extraordinary” and, if anything, customer loyalty had actually improved as a result of the way the automaker had handled the recalls.

It said remaining customers whose cars had not yet been modified had now been contacted four times by registered letter but there would always be some who were out of the country or content to wait until the next service.
