Spainish ccar sales are showing definite signs of decline, the national vehicle manufacturers’ group ANFAC has said after releasing provisional data for new car registrations in July. As a result, ANFAC said, its forecast for total unit sales for 2000 will probably be revised downward.
New car registrations totaled 150,140 in July, down 6.59% on the 160,737 recorded in July 1999, ANFAC said.

Although the total number of new registrations this year has been more than in the same period last year, the gap has been narrowing in the last month. In January-July 2000, registrations totaled 910,255, ANFAC said, up a mere 3.09% on the 882,948 recorded in the first seven months of 1999. In the first six months of 2000, car sales were up 5.46% on the first half of 1999.
Anfac said that as a result of this new trend, its full-year forecast of 1.5 million unit sales is no longer “realistic” and “should probably be revised downwards significantly.”
